Planthaven Orchid Nursery has been
established for 45 years. Initially the nursery grew outdoor plants as well as
orchids for which it is now known. In the last 10 years the nursery has been
dedicated to specializing with three genera of orchid, namely, Phalaenopsis,
Cymbidium and Cattleya. Many of the plants that the nursery grows have been
sourced from leading breeders throughout the world. As the nursery specializes
in growing rather than propagating stock a wide variety of plants are available
for sale at any time. The nursery also recognizes that decor plants such as
cyclamen and gloxinia compliment the orchids for the home environment. These
plants are grown in a separate area of the nursery specifically for the
floristry market.
Planthaven Orchid nursery also specializes in supplying the floristry trade and
corporate events with cut Cymbidium and Phalanopsis flowers. In recent years
many large functions in Australia have sourced their flower needs from
Planthaven. Some events include David Jones Spring Flowershow, the full display
of orchids at James Packer's wedding, The Australian Jockey Club at Randwick
Racecourse, and leading Sydney Hotels.
In recent years Planthaven has concentrated on installation of modern technology
for growing environments. Planthaven’s charter is to grow the best quality
product at competitive prices so that customers can be satisfied with the
performance at affordable prices.
Planthaven has also, in the last three years, seen a very important requirement
of growing to consider all environmental impacts and within its processes and
now practices Integrated Pest Management. This has been achieved by following
University recommendations arising from the results of Data collected at the
Nursery. This has led to zero use of harmful and hard chemicals being used in
the nursery in the last 2 years. Not to say that the nursery previously
subscribed to using anything but soft chemicals before. However, to be able to
now achieve a quality product with no chemical use is something that the nursery
is justly proud of. The pressure of pest and disease infestation in the nursery
has been minimized by environmental control factors which create an ambience in
which the plants obviously thrive and the bad guys do not get a chance to spoil
their happy environment.
